  1. This feels like identity politics. Do you think this congress will do anything meaningful or beneficial or will most of the activity live in this virtue signaling? Hoping for impactful lawmaking- what’s your gut telling you?

  2. I wouldn’t quite call it identity politics, but it was definitely your standard-issue hackery conjured up by the campaign arm of the majority party. Honestly, it’s been that way for the last two weeks. The only bills we’ve voted on have been these kinds of messaging bills. But now that committees are up and running, I expect that to change. My prediction is you will see some real stuff pretty soon - but it probably won’t be huge stuff. We shall see.

  3. Majority party has total power over what comes to a vote. We have filed many, many resolutions in the last three weeks that will be blocked from getting a vote.

  4. Hey Jeff, I’m one of your constituents. Do you know what’s going on with this bill to retroactively pay military veterans’ disability that were victims of sexual assault during their enlistment?

  5. At first I was worried I said something cringe, but then I read the stickied comment. Appreciate the interest in transparency from everyone here! - JJ

  6. That's so cool! What's involved in a swearing in ceremony?

  7. I want to know why moderate republicans and democrats couldn't form a coalition to nominate another speaker. I want to hear from you why, when the far right fringe could have been neutered, you all decided to give them more power.

  8. Came here to say this. Please Answer why this was not possible.

  9. This question gets raised a lot. In order for this to work, it would have required some interest by McCarthy in seeking Democratic votes. He decided to just go after GOP votes, and to be honest I'm not sure if there's any deal he could have struck with Dems that wouldn't have cost him more GOP votes than he could have gained. If he had expressed any willingness to work with Dems at all, he might have been toast with his party. But, in any event, at no point was he open to that negotiation.

  10. It’s really cool that an elected congressman takes the time to engage his own social media. I’m not even from your state but I follow you because you appear so human. Wishing you and your family the best!

  11. Thanks - very kind. I'm sitting in a very hot airplane that keeps getting delayed. What better time to check Reddit? Hope all is well.

  12. Don't forget to update your reddit profile! Congrats.

  13. There's a video I did about it on TikTok. Now you're all out of excuses.

  14. Thank you for these wonderful insights you've been sharing! Really fascinating stuff.
