News from artificialbutthole

  1. Yes, spinal fusion is life altering, even at one level. It can take up to 6-12 months to recover, depending. I'd get multiple surgical opinions if I were you, see a PM&R doctor and try several rounds of PT before making a life altering decision.

  2. Haha quitting the vapes is hard! Ended up in hospital last night and still here. Nurses won’t take me outside for a vape in the wheelchair so I guess my day of quitting starts from here. Time to start with some physio and get on track to shedding a few pounds.

  3. Just remember that what you eat is very important, far more than most of the most medical community knows. This book will get you started:

  4. I have, surgery went fine it just didn't help. It only helps if you have a clearly compressed nerve from a herniated disc and it is causing SEVERE pain and neurological symptoms (weakness / numbness) or progressive symptoms. Then you want to relieve the nerve of pressure before permanent damage is done.

  5. Thank you for sharing your experience and for the suggestion. I have a compressed nerve root for about a year, but the pain seems to be somewhat reduced now. Still my recent MRI is showing that the herniation has increased. That is why I am reading into the surgical methods now to check if it will worth it.

  6. After a year I don't think I'd bother with surgery. Also, it doesn't really matter what the MRI shows, all that matters are symptoms. If your symptoms aren't worse, then what an MRI shows is irrelevant. Could show worse, and you get better, or could show "better" and yet you get worse. MRI's are kinda worthless in this regard.

  7. So, isn't having a lower population (or lowering population) in the LONG-TERM a good thing? Doesn't that mean less mouths to feed, less people to take care of, more resources/support for existing people, less environmental damage, less consumption of natural resources, less stress on health care system, less need for mass amounts of food to be constantly created, etc etc? I know there will be a painful generation where there will be a lot more older people than younger people, but once we get through that pain period, would not things get better?

  8. Ya, I mean, it's better in the LONG-TERM. When I said that I was implying a balanced age structure.

  9. This title is misleading. It's more like, replacing meat and dairy with fruit and veg leads to better fitness.

  10. How about continue to eat some meat and dairy and just eat more fruits and vegetables?

  11. You shouldn’t be getting downvoted, as that’s exactly what the study concluded. The folks whose fitness improved ate a Mediterranean style diet, which btw typically can include limited meat, poultry, dairy w more focus on fruits, vegs, whole foods, nuts, seeds, oils.

  12. Ya exactly, limited amount of chicken and fish is fine in my book. Good source of complete protein and mono-poly fats.

  13. This is a good book, but be aware that every author has an agenda and a bias. This book very specifically supports a Whole Foods plant based diet (vegan) which is not for everyone and might be considered extreme by people in public health nutrition practice (like me) because it’s very challenging to adopt and doesn’t take into account culturally sensitive care.

  14. But plant-based doesn't imply vegetarian/vegan correct? That just means eat mostly plants right?

  15. Agreed. I’ll add nutrition and metabolism

  16. All my phone calls are automatically recorded. Saved my butt a few times.

  17. Unless you have ulceration, no treatment beyond using moisturizers is likely to help.

  18. Yeah, that sounds similar to what I’m dealing with and it’s miserable. Sorry you’re going through it.

  19. What is the sciatica chapter in back mechanic? I don't seem to remember that chapter.

  20. It’s completely fucked hey. Medications shouldn’t have side effects this bad. It’s ridiculous. On a good note for me though, I finally saw a good pain specialist yesterday and she was horrified I was on cymbalta and told me to start weaning immediately. It’s causing constipation in me really bad when I already have a fucked up bowel from severe adhesions. So wish me luck! This is gonna be a rough ride getting off this shit. I’m so scared.

  21. Yes, it CAN help, doesn't mean it will. You can get a heat pad thingie from Amazon for like $10 and fill it with really hot water, put it on your back for like 20 minutes.

  22. Siggi's low fat yogurt is very high in protein. I like 19g of protein per 100 kCal of calories worth of yogurt.

  23. This is a good question. There're actually 2 sides of this story. Is the media hyping? Yes. The odds of a true default is slim to none.

  24. So what you're saying is, sell VTI now, wait till it goes down, swoop in and buy it low knowing that the debt ceiling will be raised.

  25. They emailed a while back giving notice of a big system upgrade that happened last month. You have to register a new username etc

  26. You should buy the new T bills they issue at higher yields.

  27. How about selling bonds I have now instead of waiting till maturity and use that money to buy new bonds at a higher rate?

  28. You would be selling the bonds you have now at a capital loss to buy new bonds at full price. The net would be about a wash. Nothing to gain by doing this.

  29. Well when I look at my brokerage account, I can sell it at a gain, so it shows.

  30. Thank you for this. How are you doing these days re: your back?

  31. Sorry to hear - what were you doing that caused re-injury?

  32. Kettlebell goblet squat, 50lb. No warning, was very easy for me, symptoms didn't show up till the next day.

  33. Some fish oil supplements are transparent about their sources and cleaning methods to ensure low to no risk of mercury content in them - best to find ones that are third party verified so you know labels and ingredients fully match (which is a concern in the US)

  34. Salmon is very low in mercury and has far more health benefits than associated risks

  35. Right but if all I wanted was the DHA/EPA, why not eliminate it all together? Also, it would be easier (less cooking) and cheaper correct?

  36. Just FYI, not all chiropractors do adjustments. I've seen one or two who strictly do exercise rehab and that is all, and rarely adjustments.

  37. You don't tell them about your disability until after a job offer.

  38. So should I only look for companies that are actually offering part-time work?
