News from single_malt_nation

  1. 8.1 is a fantastic whisky. Adam is starting to come into his own after being in the shadow of Jim, especially with the Black Art series. I enjoyed the 8.1 much more than the 6.1 and 7.1. Still no 4.1 though, but not much is ever going to beat that one, IMO.

  2. I’m gonna say it, Nick Offerman would be very disappointed sitting next to all that bourbon. 🫢

  3. You can purchase them off of the Ardbeg website. Etsy and eBay has them for sale as well.

  4. Awesome “selection”! Balvenie is one of my favorite distilleries. I try and buy anything from them I can get my hands on. If you’re able, look for any of the Tun 1509 bottles. They are fantastic.

  5. A close friend ordered this bottle for me offline from a store located in the UK (along with a few others) and I picked them up from him this week. I live in a NABCA state so, having them shipped to me is not an option sadly. I paid around $220 USD for this bottle, not including shipping.

  6. Searched for the bottle at my state-owned liquor store's webpage, unfortunately, no luck...

  7. Good ole’ Malort. If someone gathered up my MeMaw’s potpourri she has on the back of the toilet in her bathrooms and made it into soap and you had to eat said soap while someone was squeezing a grapefruit into our eye, while you’re standing next to a gas pump that’s spilling over gas on the ground and someone is punching you in the back our your head while you are on fire. Mmmmmmm

  8. I do have this bottle and I totally agree with your notes..

  9. Why in the world would you buy this when you could buy 10,457 bottles of Ardbeg Uigeadail …. Right?

  10. Picked up the 23 year Arran PM Spirits bottle on a trip to Manhattan a few months back. Finished in Cognac barrels in France so, technically not a scotch, but a fantastic whisky. Enjoy!

  11. Alabama has the 4th highest taxes and prices so that makes them 4th worst. I'll put their poor selection against anybody's.

  12. For me personally, I like the 18 better. It could be because I know that it is no longer available and I am rationing out the few bottles of it I have left. But make no mistake, the 16 year is a phenomenal whisky too.

  13. May I ask what price you got Arran 21 ?

  14. And here I was, had all but forgotten about how badly I wanted to try the fabled Black Art (or even the Octomores for that matter, or anything from Laddich other than the PC10 and Classic I can get), and then you had to go post this.

  15. Good Sir, my sincerest apologies. As you seem to be somewhat perturbed by the mere fact of me posting this bottle, given the trouble you have experienced attempting to purchase something other than Laddie 10, I will make sure and not mention that I only paid around $350 for this bottle. And I will absolutely not say anything about the fact that I still have (4) unopened bottles of the 4.1 hoarded away while I finish the last half of my opened bottle of 4.1.

  16. Yea, that would be very mean indeed to bring that up. Im just gonna go write "Black Art" on a post it note, stick it on the Larceny BP bottle, and stare at it while I drink it.

  17. That’s exactly how we rated them in our Arran tasting. That distillery is putting out some amazing whisky.

  18. Black Art 4.1 is my favorite expression out of the Black Art line and in my Top 5 whiskies ever. Decided to go back and revisit the sequel. It’s not 4.1 good, but still tasty all the same. Slainte

  19. Where are you guys that you can find these!? Everywhere I go in CA and TX they look at me like I'm making it up when I ask for black art

  20. If I’m not mistaken, I bought this bottle up in KY. Nobody in bourbon country is buying scotch.

  21. I like whisky, but I disagree with and mostly reject the cringy culture that surrounds it. For me it's a nice secondary thing in my life, that's all. Being one of the few Spanish people that actually understands whisky allows me to have a different point of view of the whole thing. A non anglosphere point of view i guess.

  22. Great collection. Congrats! I know the time and dedication it takes to curate that type of collection. Two questions. Which Black Art do you have? Is that Bruichladdich 1990/27 Year the travel exclusive one? I have the Bruichladdich 1984/32, 1986/30 and 1988/30 and enjoy all of those bottlings.

  23. Good eye! That is the travel retail Bruichladdich! As for the Black Arts, I have the 4.1 (absolutely incredible whisky) and the 6.1 (also very tasty, but the 4.1 is in its own league). As for the collection, yeah, it’s kind of expanded beyond the confines of like three different shelving units now.

  24. Agreed. Black Art 4.1 is beyond fantastic. Jim McEwan is one of the greatest master distilleries (if not the greatest) of all time. Still have 4 unopened bottles of 4.1 and one currently open. Going to be sad when that’s gone for sure.

  25. I’m wondering if this will be similar in taste to the Balvenie 19 Yr Edge of Burnhead Wood. They used heather in the kiln with the barley for that whisky and they did the same here, with the addition of birch bark and juniper. The heather gave the Balvenie a really interesting flavor without being off putting so, hopefully this one won’t be a drain pour or taste like bath soap. 🤞🏻

  28. This is my first bottle. After trying this one I would love to try the first two!

  29. No Name # 1 was really good. No Name # 2 was meh. No Name # 3 is amazing. You got the best one out of the bunch. Congrats!

  30. Great Review! Balvenie is one of my top three distilleries and the TUN 1509 line is fantastic!
