If you're a man, you need to stop eating crap, you need to exercise, you need to stay off of hard drugs, you need to find purpose, you need to care about something more than yourself. It's time to man the fuck up.

When laughter meets percussion

  1. It's so sad how people can be broken by that. Like in 1980 almost any girl would die for a chance to be with Michael Jackson, but he was still saddled with the words of some bitter old man calling him big nose.

  2. Michael Jackson fans are wild. The mental gymnastics required seems exhausting.

  3. Honestly I don't think so... Unless you consider the civil war but not really

  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_conflicts_in_the_United_States?wprov=sfti1

  5. 21st century: "domestic conflicts and terrorist attacks"

  6. I see what you’re saying. This is a semantic argument but you are right in the U.S. has been extremely fortunate to have avoided total war at home after the American Civil War ended.

  7. Dexter. IIRC it was when he fell for Serena Joy.

  8. No. No. No. Teach your children that it’s ok to fail, not that they need to make themselves smaller to make others feel better.

  9. I think this really depends. I agree with the point you’re making. But when talking about “taking up space” it’s important for some to practice taking up more space, but others also need to practice taking up less space. If you’re always talking in a meeting vying for a promotion, who isn’t talking? Is that okay with you (one)? Isn’t the answer more nuanced and have to do with self-awareness?

  10. Truth is that it doesn't matter if I've read it or not. You just made an assumption I wouldn't like it based off the author being gay and from Portland. Really projecting your bigotry

  11. Bigotry against someone with a different political stance. I'm glad you've rolled back your initial perception and I will put another book on my list. Thank you

  12. I think of bigotry as referring to prejudice towards a marginalized group. I don’t consider internet conservatives as a marginalized group, and struggle to find common ground with folks that historically, have fought against tolerance, open-mindedness, and civil rights. If that does not describe you, and you think we are all equal in value—I’m sorry for my mistake. To be clear I was responding to your comment chastising someone else for reasons I still don’t understand.

  13. I see you’re a man of privilege and opportunity. Congratulations.

  14. I'm very sorry that your life has been so hard on you that you felt this type of reply was the way to go in response to someone asking why at least 8 people in the same family over 4 genarations and 80 years continued to do a job generation after generation in America if it was described as such a horrible job.

  15. I was being snarky, and I apologize if it was uncalled for. It was a visceral response. Similar to when people ask folks in abusive relationships why they don’t leave. Often there are no other work opportunities in these areas and very few transferable skills. That is a lot of history to give up for what could be a lateral move into a different industry without the camaraderie that can develop in these families.

  16. both. im assuming you have all 6 of your covid shots tho. its completely unrelated

  17. Ooof. Now I just feel bad. I can’t tell if you are 14 years old or just on the wrong side of the Mason-Dixon.

  18. why would I stalk your comments? that's weird af. is that something you regularly do, so you think its normal?

  19. If you check my post history, I’ve never followed a commenter before. That’s how much your reply stood out to me as being particularly opinionated and uninformed word salad.

  20. Here are the two problems I faced with this as a guy with nerdy friends that didn’t like parties:

  21. I hear you, but as an introverted college freshman 15 years ago, lemme just say…the second X chromosome doesn’t make us immune to this situation. I had a very active sex life before going off to college, but my freshman year I didn’t even make out with someone and that was not for lack of trying. I went to the wrong places: frat parties, football games, etc to fight FOMO. I looked uncomfortable because that was definitely not my scene. Once I figured out that it is much easier (and more fun) to meet dudes while pursuing my hobbies, I was back in the game. And then maybe you might actually have something in common with them for the times you aren’t banging. If parties aren’t your thing, great! There are plenty of potential partners looking to meet (and bang) somewhere else. Communication around intentions here is especially important if you’re someone who unironically uses the term “friend-zone.” Don’t “fuck-zone” a friend, but don’t assume you can’t/won’t have the kind of sex you want to be having.

  22. That depends on how determined you are to not hear about these people.

  23. This made me laugh a laugh. Thank you for that.

  24. Tell me you’re a man without telling me you’re a man.

  25. Not her place to disrespect her father in public no matter how I'm acting. If she had an issue with it we could have a conversation in private later ( or if it is really urgent .. pull me aside privately at that time ).

  26. What if it were your son instead of your daughter? Just asking for fun.

  27. I actually gave that site a look just now. It seems like all the most popular videos had already been distilled and re-disseminated into mainstream comedy shows after the fact and I recognize them already, so I feel like a 00s kid finally figuring out what all those obscure 90s MadTV/In Living Color references meant. I recognize some top FoD bits from Family Guy, and some other bits that were regurgitated in stuff like B99 and Good Place, although I can't be fucked atm to match specific season/episode timestamps to every one so far. You're right that it was huge enough for the common internet zeitgeist to influence the mainstream.

  28. *Friendly reminder that culture wars (as important as they are) are specifically designed to distract and divide us to prevent collaborative organization

  29. This is all well and good but it is almost impossible to emigrate.

  30. I understand the feelings of helplessness. I've seen this road coming for a number of years now, and the whole time I've gotten more and more discouraged by how everyone just disregarded my warnings on where we're headed.

  31. Thank you! I remember arguing this point over the last decade, too and it’s hard to fight the catastrophizing/defeatist thoughts and feelings while also watching the dumpster fire rage and spread.

  32. Hello there. I'm not okay with things either. What's going on in my country (US) is scary to me. And the world. And my life.

  33. Mustard, pickles, eggs, beans, seafood especially shellfish, olives, mushrooms, goat cheese, gamey meat, organ meat, beets, sour cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, mayo, bleu cheese, jalapeños, curry, tarragon.
