Huawei has registered a trademark for its homegrown operating system (OS) "Hongmeng," a confirmation of the company's longtime efforts to achieve technological self-reliance. It is reported to have started developing its own system since 2012 and is likely to be launched as early as this fall.
The OS is the easy part. The app store is what will make or break it.
Yea I think you are missing the point. Once they have a competitor OS, China will force people to stop using Android. That way they can fully inject whatever spying they want.
I guess its time to start up a 'DistroWatch' for phones. Threatening Huawei with the withdrawal of Android support was a really dumb move on google's part.
That's not very catchy. I guess they aren't planning on seeking devices in the west.
They will slowly disappear and be taken over by someone else.
